I’ve built a healthy career in communications starting as a freelance news reporter for the local newspaper and parenting magazine, and then as a news columnist. My journey took me into advertising, marketing and magazine publishing, and it included a quick detour into criminal justice where I wrote investigative reports for the Criminal and Supreme Courts in New York City.
I’ve served as an award-winning editor for a regional business journal and the editor of a lifestyle magazine.
As the director of editorial for a small book publisher, I’ve managed over 60 books from the manuscript stage to publication.
I have copy edited and developmentally edited a broad variety of genres including fiction (children’s, YA, fantasy, romance, mystery and crime) and non-fiction (law, sports, self-help, cooking, faith, history, business and entertainment).
I have also edited theses, dissertations, cover letters and executive job applications.
A four-time author, I’ve written fiction and non-fiction, primarily about jazz:
I have also co-authored a book about the economic resurgence of a Midwest urban center with a commercial real estate developer.
I have been on numerous discussion panels and have presented on writer’s block, building an author platform and using social media.
