Always a sucker for a fat sax and a hot beat, I took a listen to the new single from vocalist Zoey Tess and I was not disappointed. Tess wields a strong and assertive voice with beautiful tone and phrasing that punches and glides in all the right places.
Artist’s quote:
“It’s a blend of jazz, R&B and hip-hop. I was lucky enough to work with legendary producer Vic Steffens of Horizon Music Group in West Haven, CT. The track is a tongue-in-cheek song about a girl who is fed up with being bossed around by her boyfriend. Stephen ‘Gritz’ King laid down the saxophone track that gave a nod to an old-school jazz sound. Mega-talented hip-hop artist ‘G-Nice’ Langley provided a rap bridge that flowed with the jazz fusion element of the song.”
Zoey Tess is a jazz singer, songwriter and pianist from New Haven, Connecticut. Her influences are Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra and The Fugees.
